Sound in space — subtle, inevitable, lasting
IKI RECORDINGS is an independent recording imprint dedicated to documenting musical and performative events in real spaces. The focus is not on a specific genre, but on how sound emerges, unfolds in space, and is captured as a moment.
Recording is understood not as production in the classical studio sense, but as an artistic process of listening. Music, speech, theater, and sound works are recorded in their respective environments — concert halls, theaters, landscapes, churches, or other acoustically defining locations. Space is understood as an integral part of the work.
IKI RECORDINGS publishes works from diverse musical and performative contexts, including jazz, contemporary music, electronic improvisation, theater productions, audiovisual compositions, and site-specific sound works. Stylistic boundaries play no role; what matters is the presence of the performance and the perception of sound in space.
The aesthetic foundation of the project lies in a reduced recording practice: minimal technical intervention, high sonic precision, and a deliberate avoidance of overproduction. The aim is to preserve performances in their natural dynamics, spatial depth, and temporal immediacy.
A central element of all releases is the indication of the recording location. Under the designation SPACE, the room is made visible as an artistic parameter. The location is placed on equal footing with the participating musicians and refers to the concrete situation in which the work was created.
